Classique: the rebirth of an icon

A history of expertise, design and history

inspired by a unique personality

In 1961, following her husband's election as President of the United States, Jackie Kennedy became the First Lady. Prestigious, the S.T.

It was the gift chosen by André Malraux, then General de Gaulle's Minister of Cultural Affairs, who in 1962 presented the First Lady with a gold Ligne 1 lighter adorned with a discreet gold ‘J’. Very touched, she developed a strong attachment to this elegant object, which was both functional and intimate.

Nearly ten years later, S.T. Dupont received a special order: Jackie Onassis Kennedy wanted a biro to match her lighter. The company did not manufacture writing instruments, but decided to take up the challenge.

An icon of design

The first S.T. Dupont pen

The brass and design of its Ligne 1 inspired S.T. Dupont craftsmen, who transposed the vertical metal guilloche of the lighter's driver to the body of a pen.

The body was then faceted, before being adorned with a vertical guilloche and launched on the market. Called the Classique, it marks the beginning of the Art of Writing according to S.T. Dupont and became, forever, an icon of 70's design.

Made in France

These pens feature intricate guilloches, refined lacquer craftsmanship and a smooth turning mechanism. This collection sublimates the expertise and technique of S.T. Dupont expertise and technique. Each of its pens reflects the House's commitment to excellence.
